There's no good standard library to decode it. Each of the various third-party viewers uses a different library, and in fact there was a big kerfluffle recently about which decoder was legal to use.

So there's no way to make sure a Jpeg2000 image works in all viewers.

What I'd like is for Linden Lab to implement HTML textures. HTML is a nice common format, there's tons of good libraries to render HTML. It's something they've promised but I doubt they'll ever get their act together enough to actually implement it.

In the meantime, you can use the Local Scores feature on the website. It not only gives you everyone's name in an easy-to-read format, it will show all names, not just the top eight.

Hmmmmm... Team captain names aren't very important for my enjoyment of En Garde. And if it IS going to be displayed, I do not see the privacy issue. If you name a team, it is something you do for the rest of the world to be able to identify you. Who would name a team and then choosing not to be associated with it? So I refrain from voting for "opt-in" or "opt-out".

When that is said - I really think it's the board owners' responsibility to keep themselves updated on what is going on. Be it through the group or your blog. If they don't, it's by default not an important issue for them.

And while I have your attention... something that IS important: the name textures that are unreadable in a number of viewers. For En Garde it's just a nuisance. For Can't Stop it's a real problem. I actually announced the wrong winner in yesterday's tournament because I guessed the wrong name! So - on behalf of the people playing on my pistes and tables, I ask you to consider if there is a way to solve this.

~ Aris Oh ~
